Confusion prevails over the name of the `391 crore worth newly constructed Soudha at Belgaum. While Assembly Speaker Bopaiah had recently announced that it would be renamed as Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Sunday said that it would be known as Suvarna Soudha.
Even the invitation cards for the inauguration of the building dated for October 11 has mentioned it as Suvarna Soudha.
When Shettar’s attention was drawn to the Speaker’s statement, the Chief Minister said that the decision to construct the building was taken when the Karnataka was observing its golden jubilee year of the state formation. So the then government had named it as Suvarna Soudha, he added.
However, In-charge Minister of Belgaum district Umesh Katt has said that the name of the Suvarna Soudha would be changed as Suvarna Vidhana Soudha after the inauguration. According to a senior official, the change of the name of the Soudha should be announced in the Gazette which has still not been by the state government.
However, Shettar has assured that he will talk to the officials concerned and will make necessary changes in the name. Till then the Soudha would be, officially, known as Suvarna Soudha .
Shettar said assured that the newly built Soudha will open the opportunities of develoments and prosperity for north Karnataka region. Speaking to reporters after reviewing the works and arrangements of the inaugural ceremony of the Soudha here on Sunday, the CM said that the long pending demand of the people of north Karnataka that the region was neglected in terms of developments has been fulfilled following the construction of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. “The other developmental works would soon follow,” he added.
The Soudha would be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee.
