The petition said that the Act must be re-interpreted so that rapists don't get the benefit of being minors during trial.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that the juvenile convict in the Delhi gangrape case cannot be sent for trial in a regular court. The Supreme Court decision came on a plea filed by the Delhi braveheart's parents seeking that the juvenile convict be treated as an adult.

The apex court also dismissed a petition by Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy seeking a reinterpretation of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Swamy sought that the law be reinterpreted so that juvenile convicts in heinous crimes don't get the benefit of being minors during trial.

The juvenile convict in the Delhi gangrape case was sent to three years at a reformatory home as per the Juvenile Justice Act. The parents of the Delhi braveheart called it a miscarriage of justice and had vowed to fight the court order.
