New Delhi: A 19-year-old Delhi University student committed suicide by hanging himself in what seems to be yet another case of suicide due to exam-related stress, police said on Saturday.

The student, Samiran Saikia was a Botany student in the first year of BSc Honours course at Delhi university's Hindu college.

"A police team rushed to the spot after we received a call at 11:40 a.m. Saturday but the exact time of the incident can only be confirmed after the post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the cause of suicide may be exam-related stress," a police official told IANS.

According to police, no suicide note was found. Saikia was rushed to the Babu Jagjivan Ram hospital where he was declared brought dead.

"Saikia's fellow lodgers have suggested that he was depressed due to his performance in exams during the past few days. We have informed the boy's parents and are now awaiting the post-mortem report," the official added.

Saikia hailed from Assam and was living in a rented room at Model Town area's Vijay Nagar locality for the past one year.
