VIZIANAGARAM: Vyricherla Kishore Chandra Suryanarayana Deo, a five-time MP who was inducted into the Union cabinet on Tuesday, belongs to the Konda Dora community, a Scheduled Tribe. Born on February 15, 1947 at  Kurupam village in the district, Deo completed his postgraduation in political science in Chennai and  has a BA degree in economics from the Christian College in Chennai. One of the senior politicians of North Andhra and richly deserves his appointment as the minister for panchayat raj and tribal welfare. He was elected from the Araku Lok Sabha constituency by a margin of 1,92,444 votes defeating his nearest rival M Babu Rao of the CPM in the 2009 general election.Deo was first elected to Parliament in 1977 and has been elected to the Lok Sabha five times (four times from Parvatipuram) and once to the Rajya Sabha. He served as minister of state for steel, mines and coal in the Indira Gandhi cabinet during 1979-80.He was member of the Indian National Congress political party and has been elected to the Lok Sabha four times from Parvathipuram. He has served on numerous parlimentary committees and as chairman of several  parlimentary committees, including the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Scheduled Tribes. Currently, he is the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Undertakings. Deo is also an author and wrote ‘Changing India’s Political Mould’ on electoral and federal reforms.His wife V Preeti Deo, daughter and son live at Kurupam. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy congratulated Deo.
