KOCHI: Dharani School of Performing Arts is organising ‘Science of art,’ a two-day dance and music class from Wednesday. Dancer Priyadarshini Govind, musician T M Krishna and writer V R Devika will participate in the classes which will be held at Ashirbhavan, Kacheripadi at 3 pm. There will be a bharatanatyam performance by Priyadarshini and a Carnatic music concert by Krishna at the Fine Arts Hall on September 22, at 6.45 pm.Priyadarshini is a well known Bharatanatyam exponent who has specialised in abhinaya under Kalanidhi Narayanan from the age of nine and took advanced training under Guru Swamimalai K Rajaratnam, an exponent of the Vazhvoor School from the age of ten. Priyadarsini imbibes the best of both her teachers. She has been performing from the age of sixteen and has performed at numerous concerts and academies in India and abroad. Intense and naturally talented, her special interest remains abhinaya. Thodur Madabusi Krishna is a Carnatic music vocalist. He is known for his resonant voice and strict adherence to classicism and is widely considered as the most prominent young male Carnatic vocalist with a great depth in his subject. His concerts are usually marked by an electrifying performance and a deeply moved audience. Dharani School of Performing Arts run by Shyamala Surendran, a Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy awardee and member of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations’ panel of artists, provides training in bharatnatyam, mohiniyattam, kathakali, mridangam, veena, violin (eastern) and vocal (Carnatic) music.Over these years, the society has tried to create awareness and appreciation for pristine classical arts. Lecture demonstrations by artistes are held to provide an awareness to the students. The students of Dharani School are exposed to as many performing arts as possible through these programmes and lecture demonstrations.
