Actor Shaam, who spent his initial years in Kollywood as a chocolate boy in films like '12 B' and 'Ye! Nee Romba Azhaga Irukka', moved to serious roles later. The actor has now joined hands with 'Kathir', the filmmaker known for his breezy mushy romances, for the movie 'Kodai Vidumurai'.
This flick will mark Kadhir’s return to films after a hiatus of 10 years. He is still known for his love-centric films like 'Idhayam (1992), which was his debut, and 'Kadhal Virus' (2002), which he last directed.
The 'Kadhal Desam' fame director is targeting the young audience with 'Kodai Vidumurai' in which Shaam plays a college student. “Shaam has been essaying serious roles for quite some time now. This film will be a breather in that sense for him,” he says.
Kathir’s film has already gone on floors. “Summer holidays, which play a major role in all our lives and help take important decisions, will be the focus of this film,” he informs City Express.
Apart from cute love stories, Kathir’s movies are known for the songs and visuals. For his upcoming flick, he seems to have taken care of his USP. “There are six songs and Vaali sir has penned lyrics for all of them,” he says.
Kathir, it may be recalled, was the first filmmaker to have signed on AR Rahman for a film, though Mani Ratnam’s 'Roja' released first. Having worked with Rahman in films like 'Kadhal Desam', 'Uzhavan' and 'Kadhal Virus', Kadhir says he will be introducing a new composer in this film.
Kathir will also launch a student of cinematographer P C Sriram in this film. “I think people trained by PC have excelled with time. I have found one such talent for Kodai Vidumurai,” he says.
Ask him what he thinks of the developments in Tamil cinema over the last decade, and he says, “Tamil cinema has improved in terms of the use of technology, not story telling”
