Indian Olympic Association says it will take all possible measures to keep doping offences under check at the National Games.

New Delhi: Taking a stern stand on doping at the National Games, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said on Tuesday that the body will take all possible measures to keep substance offences under check at the 33rd edition.

"We are taking serious note of the menace and will act very tough on the issue. We are taking a lot of steps," IOA President Suresh Kalmadi said.

"All state Olympic associations have been told to inform the athletes about dope sampling. The samples will be sent to the IOC-accredited lab in Bangkok because we want a correct report and that can be achieved in an IOC lab," he added.

"There are lot of doctors at hand. There are lot of out-of-competition checks going on. The WADA team is coming regularly to India," he said.

Until now, India have resorted to sending the samples of athletes abroad to WADA-accredited laboratories, but Kalmadi said that the country will soon have its own IOC-accredited laboratory.

"We are looking forward to an IOC-accredited lab coming up in India. All the equipment is coming and we can have a full fledged dope lab in Delhi in next six months. It will be ready for the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune."
