Chennai: The Dravidian movement will continue to flourish in spite of "threats and intimidation" from many sides, DMK president M Karunanidhi said on Monday.
In his address at a function to mark the centenary of the Dravidian movement, he said, "Today, we are facing so much threat and intimidation from many sides. Undeterred by all these, we would continue walking the steps of (rationalist leader EVR) Periar and (DMK founder) CN Annadurai."
Karunanidhi, whose party captured power on the plank of social justice and issues concerning Tamils in the 1967 elections ousting Congress, said he had participated in the anti-Hindi agitation at the age of 13.
"Even if one Karunanidhi goes, another will come (to take the movement forward) and the legacy would continue," he said. Apparently taking a dig at the ruling AIADMK, he said some people cannot tolerate the very words of Dravidian or 'semmozhi' (classical language).
Reiterating the Dravidian movement's anti-Brahmin stand, he cited statistics to show that only members of that community were ahead in education and jobs suppressing others in the past.
