Driven by red mission

KOCHI: A man clad in red cloak and a red helmet bearing the CPM symbol, riding a bike behind the convoy of LDF candidate M J Jacob, has been gathering amused look.However, Sebastian Enthayar, the man in red, is least amused.For he is here with a mission.In fact, with two missions.Firstly, to ensure the win of Jacob and secondly, but no less important to him, to create awareness on the need to build a new dam at Mullaperiyar.Sebastian is a CPM activist from Enthayar who joined the campaign of M J Jacob only a few days ago.Now that he is here, he says he will campaign for Jacob till the last day.Sebastian says:,”I have been campaigning for a new dam at Mullaperiyar for over two months now.However, with the announcement of elections, I am here to support the LDF candidate.The bypoll is important for the party and Jacob is a good and honest candidate.So I work for him,” Sebastian says.And this loyal activist has attracted the attention of the LDF candidate too, who has grown quite fond of him.Sebastian adds that contrary to what people think, the party is not sponsoring him.“I travel and campaign with my own money.I run a marriage bureau ‘Kripayaal’ at Enthayar in Kottayam,” he says.“Enthayar is not in the danger zone even if something happens to the dam.However, as a citizen of this country, I am concerned about the millions who are in danger,” says Sebastian whose campaign for a new dam has completed 70 days.He adds that his campaign is both for Jacob and the dam.His bike is covered with posters asking people to vote for Jacob along with those seeking a new dam at Mullaperiyar.Sebastian had brought the new two-wheeler for the purpose.Sebastian says his family supports him in his endeavour.As he follows Jacob’s campaign vehicle to yet another destination he says, “I am an one-man army and will continue the campaign.”
