EC issues notices to Congress, DMK
The Election Commission has come down heavily on the both the parties for using more vehicles than allowed for an election rally.

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Friday issued notices to DMK, Congress and parties in the DPA coalition in Tamil Nadu for allegedly violating the model code of conduct by using a large number of vehicles in a poll meeting.

Citing a joint public meeting addressed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi on April 25, the EC said that more than 200 vehicles with party flags were used violating the standing instructions of the model code, EC sources said.

Observing that the instructions allowed not more than than three vehicles, use of a large number of vehicles tantamount to violation of the model code of conduct by the leaders and workers of the parties which included PMK, CPI-M, CPI and IUML, the sources said.

"So the Commission has decided to issue showcause notices to the General Secretaries of the political parties to explain why no action be taken against them", the sources said adding that the parties have been asked to reply by May 1.
