New Delhi: The Telugu-Tamil bilingual ‘Eega’ is doing wonders at the box office. The film has surpassed the business of prominent Hindi films in the overseas market. The director of the film, SS Rajamouli expressed his views towards the overwhelming success of the film during a web chat organised by IBNLive. He said, “Director Shankar sir called me up and reviewed the whole film for 10 minutes and again told me how his kids enjoyed the film, and a half baked critic on Twitter ripped my film scene by scene as it is being screened and concluded this film is going to be an utter flop. I loved them both.”
When asked about why he doesn’t do films with clear-cut messages, he replied, “I don't believe in message oriented films. Audience come to the theatre to be entertained. My duty as a director is to entertain them to the best of my ability.”
Rajamouli clarified that ‘Eega’ is meant for kids, “It is a kid film. It is for the kid in every grown up.”
He further said that commercial success is important for him, “It will differ from person to person. For me box office success is important.”
The ‘Eega’ director is aware of the expectations, “Expectations will definitely increase and I will be aware of that but that will not deter me from choosing the stories I like. That is my duty as a director.”
He also explained the reason behind not making the film in 3D, “I am not a big fan of 3D and art of shot making in 3D is different and I don't know that art. As it is we were fiddling with animation it would have complicated the project.”
The makers are also planning to release the film in Hindi, Rajamouli said, "Yes, currently the ground work is going on."
The film opened to rave reviews and has been doing well so far. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma went on to say that ‘Eega’ will enter the Rs 100 crore club. Director SS Rajamouli is enjoying the success at this time but such super success will increase the pressure on him to come up with better films in the future too.
