KOLLAM: Even as the Italian Government has expressed regrets over the killing of two Indian fishermen, the Italian media is continuing its efforts to depict Enrica Lexie as innocent in the incident.Quoting an expert,  Italian daily Correire della Sara has raised doubts in a report which was published on Tuesday about the compatibility of the calibre of the bullets found from the boat and those used by the marines.“The most visible and deep incision measures nearly an inch in width, a size more compatible, say experts, with close to 8 mm bullets. The Italian army (including the San Marco Regiment) uses bullets of 5.6 mm, as per the standards of NATO,” the newspaper  says. The report has been credited to Giuseppe Sarcina, senior correspondent of the newspaper, who was in Kollam on Monday. He had visited the boat and taken its photographs.Speaking to Express  on Tuesday, Giuseppe Sarcina said, "I received the information from an Italian expert, who spoke under the condition of anonymity.’’ Sarcina dodged questions about  whether the expert had visited the boat.A five-member Italian team, including two arms and ammunitions experts, had on Sunday visited the boat in Neendakara and taken photographs. Sarcina said he had sent the photographs of the bullet marks to another expert but could not answer how someone can judge the  size and calibre of the bullets by looking at photographs. The Italian media ridicules the Indian media’s accusation about the ‘compatibility’ of Enrica Lexie with the ship described by the fishermen in the FIR.The reports say that the black-red colour scheme mentioned by the fishermen is common among cargo ships.
