BANGALORE: “The E-waste (management and handling) Rules, which will come into effect in 2012, will be incorporating all dealers and producers with the liability for recycling and reducing e-waste,” said A S Sadashiviah, Chairman, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB).He addressed the gathering at the valedictory function of the fortnight long ‘Bengaluru Recyclying Habba 2011’, organised by the Solid Waste Management Round Table (SWMRT), in collaboration with KSPCB, BBMP and Karnataka High Court Legal Services Committee here on Sunday. He said, “Under the new rules, the producers will have to make consumers aware about the hazardous components present in the product and also provide instructions to consumers for handling the equipments after its use.” Meanwhile he also appreciated the residents of National Games Village, Koramangala for their initiative in recycling the waste generated from their apartments and gave a call to all the apartment dwellers to start similar initiatives at their respective apartments.BBMP commissioner, Siddaiah, expressed his concern over the residents of the villages around the solid-waste dumping landfills on the city outskirts. He said, “Every individual needs to understand the effect and minimise waste generation. We are also looking for initiatives to free these villagers from the landfill sites who are at the verge of contracting all kinds of diseases.” Justice N K Patil, Judge, High Court of Karnataka, and Yellapa Reddy, noted environmentalist, appreciated the initiative, SWMRT which has spread the message and ideas of recycling.
