Former Cooperative Bank Chairman and ex-BJP leader Pramod Gupta was sentenced to life in prison by a local court on Thursday for gangraping a girl at a city resort in a case going back five years.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Amit Kumar Sirohi also sentenced Gupta's associate Ashok Kumar to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment in the case. Ashok was held guilty of being Gupta's accomplice in the crime.
However, Pravin Kumar, the owner of the resort where the crime took place on April 19, 2008, was acquitted by court.
The duo, on Wednesday, were convicted after being found guilty of taking the girl to Rajpur Resort on the pretext of getting her a job in the secretariat and then gangraping her after offering her a drink laced with sedatives, Public Prosecutor GC Sharma said.
The two convicted persons were both associated with the state BJP at the time of the incident.
