BANGALORE: With an aim to create awareness among the corporate companies, a workshop was organised on ‘Food Safety and Standards Act 2011’ by Health First, Institute of Safety Management and Reasearch in association with the Commissionerate of Food Safety, Department of Health and Family Welfare recently.B S Ramaprasad, Commissioner of Food Safety , highlighted the government’s preparedness for the effective implementation of the new law. He also threw light on the expectations from the food and beverage industry.Nimish Bhatia, Regional Executive Chef, Lalit Ashok, said that the Food Safety and Standards Act is a welcome and timely legislation and the onus is on the hospitality industry to effectively comply with it. When it comes to food, it is more than just the look and feel. Quality assurance which is the safety and the quality of the food should assume highest priority, the chef observed.Other topics covered in the workshop included overview of the current trends in the food safety processes, regulatory perspective and guidelines for kitchen and cafeteria infrastructure, adjudication and prosecution under the law, legal overview of the law and government compliance and implication.Faculty from Food Safety Department, academic and practising experts from University of Mysore and NLISU participated.
