Fashion came naturally to Ishita Singh. “My mom was my biggest inspiration. She designed a lot of stuff, but always on a small-scale. I used to look at her and learn how to design,” Ishita admits and muses, “I went on to pursue designing as a profession and feel fortunate enough to have been able to get such a platform.
” Sifat and me An alumni of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Ishita started establishing herself in the fashion industry while in college itself.Her forte lies in blending colors, textures and patterns and her design philosophy is simple – “Wear yourself”. Owner of the fashion label Anhad, she showcased her latest collection ‘Sifat’ at Taj Deccan recently.
“Sifat is all about depicting a woman’s journey, right from being a teenager.It’s an indigenous couture collection which is an exquisite creation. It has innovative designs and personalised attention to details, appealing to every woman out there,” she explains.Her love for Indian fabrics is quite evident in her creations.
“I believe that clothes are an extension of oneself. I love using fabrics like Kalamkari, Zardosi and many more as the textures and details in them, along with the perfect fusion materials, bring out the most fashionable, yet relatable clothes.” Her collections echo every woman’s dream of being a diva in a true Indian Style.
Her label Anhad is a creative alliance with the right amount of attitude, and epitomises style. Lietrally going places with her work, Ishita showcased her repertoire at the Bengaluru Fashion Week in July. Ask her if the response was good enough and she gushes, “I was overwhelmed by the response people gave me.
My clothes are very much Bohemian and are inspired from everyday women. They are not too blingy and anybody can pick up one and flaunt it, which went well with the Bengaluru crowd.” Her collection also made it to the Style Awards held at N-Convention Centre on Sunday night.
Designing Tollywood
Popular for her work in the 2006 Bommarillu, she is all set to make her Bollywood debut as a designer. “I have designed clothes for Charmi in her upcoming Hindi movie Zilla Ghaziabad.I have finished designing for two songs already,” she informs. Apart from this, with three more Telugu movies in hand, Ishita is busier thanever. “I have designed clothes for Charmi in her latest item number ‘Sakku Bai’.
I will also be designing for two more Telugu movies that are in the processing stage and another Bollywood movie. I cannot reveal anything more for now,” she says.Having styled Genelia D’ Souza in a lot of movies, Ishita says it’s always fun to design for her.“Genelia as a person is very chirpy and bubbly which makes every outfit look cute on her.
She is very flexible and loves experimenting with things.She gives inputs and new ideas, that can be implemented. So, when there is team work, things always turn out well,” Ishita shares. Genelia also won the Nandi Award this year for her movie Katha, wherein Ishita had designed her clothes.
Talking about the evolution of fashion in Tollywood, she says, “Back on those years, clothes in Tollywood would only be blingy reds, yellow and greens. Directors and producers wanted such an explosion of colours. But, these days things have changed drastically.
Actors prefer whites, pastels and more subtle colours.” She further mentions, “Like in Bommarillu, all of Genelia’s clothes are in English colours. I have tried and subdued the whole feel of clothing in the movie. There is a still a section which believes in loud colours.” My fashion “
Fashion to me is all about being comfortable. If you can carry off anything you wear, with the right attitude and style, then it is fashionable. Be it any attire. ” Ishita also says fashion repeats itself. “The Bubblegum colours, the braids and contrast are back. These days people experiment with bright shades of green and pink. Like for example, wearing a green top and pairing it with a pink bag. And braids are so in; people cannot get over experimenting with them,” she concludes.
