Kishtwar (J&K): The family of Kashmiri medical student Wasim Akram Malik, who has been arrested in the September 7 Delhi High Court blast case, claims that he is innocent. Wasim's family members say that he voluntarily appeared before the police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

"I was informed by the NIA that Wasim is required for questioning (in connection with the Delhi High Court blast case) and in this connection NIA has given a letter to me," his father Reyaz-ul-Hassan said.

"I arranged the telephonic talk of my son (Wasim) with NIA officer, after that I arranged my son's return (from Dhaka) to the country and at Delhi Airport I and my wife handed over our son to NIA for questioning," Hassan said.

He claimed that his son is innocent and on September 7 (the day of the blast) Wasim was in Jammu, and had drawn the cash from ATM and made shopping in various malls where CCTV cameras are present and the footage can be assessed to prove his presence in Jammu.

"My son is innocent and has nothing to do with Delhi blast case," he said.

Wasim, who is a fourth year MBBS student studying in Bangladesh, is the third person to be arrested in the blast case which killed 15 people and injured 70 others. Wasim is a native of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. A Delhi court sent him to 14 days police custody on Friday.
