KOCHI: The feasibility study on construction of a railway overbridge or a subway, which is expected to ease the traffic congestion at the Vathuruthi level-cross, will be completed within a month.The decision was taken following a meeting held between the Minister of State for Agriculture and Public Distribution, K V Thomas, and Minister for Public Works, V K Ebrahim Kunju, on Saturday. Mayor Tony Chammany presided over the meeting.A technical committee, comprising representatives of the Navy, KITCO, Port Trust and Kochi Corporation will submit the report on the feasibility of a subway or a railway overbridge at the level cross. Central as well as state grants will be collected to implement the project. With the opening of the Venduruthy-Vikrant bridge, there would be an increase in the traffic flow. The meeting also concluded that the construction work of the same could not be postponed. Measures will also be taken to ease the traffic congestion as the number of trains running to Kochi terminus would increase in the future. K V Thomas said that the government will proceed as per the recommendation of the Navy. Hibi Eden MLA and Kochi Corporation Secretary Ajith Patil were present at the meeting.
