BANGALORE: The much-awaited and repeatedly delayed metro ride is finally here. Reach 1, the 6.7-kilometre stretch between M G Road and Byappanahalli, will finally be inaugurated by Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath on October 20 at Manekshaw Parade Ground. A high-profile delegation comprising Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa, Union Minister for Railways Dinesh Trivedi, Union Minister Veerappa Moily and BJP spokesperson Arun Jaitley will attend the inauguration. After promising to inaugurate it around 18 months ago, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has finally delivered Reach 1, a short stretch of the entire project, which will serve as a trailer for what is to come in the future.With five stops along the route, Namma Metro is ready to carry 1,000 commuters in three coaches. Commuters can ride the metro after 4 pm on Thursday. Ticket counters will open at around 3.50 pm.
