BANGALORE: With an aim to track HIV positive pregnant mother and addressing HIV infection among children up to to 18 months or for early infant diagnosis, the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS) has come out with the first of its kind software which is likely to be launched in 40 districts across the country including three districts in north Karnataka-Bijapur, Belguam, and Bagalkot. Designed by KSAPS and supported by UNICEF, this system of tracking HIV mother and child is in the final stage of completion and the launch is waiting for the training of the doctors and hospital staff on its usage which is likely to start soon. The government and private public partnership hospitals do not send their reports on time. The software will help us in tracking down the baby born to an HIV infected mother up to 18 months from the time of the mother delivered and streamlining the programme under Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission (PPCT), Project Director, KSAPS R R Jannu said. The PPCT programme aims to prevent the prenatal transmission of HIV from an HIV infected mother to her new born. The programme entails counselling and testing of pregnant women in the Integrated Council and Testing Centres (ICTCs). The software will help in tracking the child as per the NACO protocols. It will help in early infant diagnosis and intervention is given to the child, he added further.Often, failure to send data on time, hospitals have lackadaisical attitude towards it but now with this software, the hospitals can now update the details which can be accessible to the aids society.Hospitals often don’t send the data as to how many women are undergoing treatment, number of deliveries, follow ups, reasons for stopping treatment, which make it difficult to know the problem areas in HIV prevention. Sometimes even giving a deadline by calling them or do not work. This software can also inform us which district has how many HIV pregnant women.
