First time that NSG unit was posted before the Pathankot attack took place, says Punjab DGP
Trained terrorists from the organisation carried out the attack, the sources added.

The terrorists involved in the Pathankot terror attack were from the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed, according to an FIR filed by the Punjab Police.

Speaking to media persons, Punjab DGP Suresh Arora said , "This is the only incident where National Security Guard (NSG) was deployed before the action was started." "We need to strengthen the district police", he added.

Defending the casualties in the Pathankot terror attack, the Director General of Police (DGP) said, "this was like a war zone". "We got an alert from Centre on December 29. Both National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Punjab police will probe the role of the Superintendent of Police (SP).

Will investigate why SP Salwinder Singh car was not stopped at the check point. Three cases have been registered so far", he added.

Further giving information on terrorists, the DGP said that there was no information on any more terrorists outside of the airbase.

Earlier, six terrorists involved in the attack at the Pathankot airbase were neutralised but combing operations were still underway to ensure that the area is safe, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Tuesday. He added that the bodies of two terrorists are charred beyond recognition.

While addressing a press conference in Pathankot, Parrikar said, "None of the buildings are damaged except the one where the two terrorists were hiding. It was a very difficult operation, one of the terrorist bodies still has a grenade strapped to it."

Parrikar said operation only lasted for 28 hours but the combing operation is underway for security reasons. He said that combing operations are likely to be over by Wednesday.
