The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) will soon launch a legal and advisory cell to assist employees on matters of dispute.
Addressing an interaction programme held on Tuesday, G Ramanand, chairman, Human Resource Committee, FKCCI, said the federation will extend both resource and time benefits to the employees, if their disputes are resolved through arbitration by the members of the committee.
“Through this initiative, they can save thousands of rupees. They can directly come to us instead of going to the Indian Council of Arbitration,” said Ramanand. “The project is still in its conceptual stages. It should come up by the end of this year,” he added.
Shripad Bolashetty, assistant commissioner of Labour, said employers in the state lack participative spirit in achieving a collective bargain when it comes to industrial disputes.
“Employers indulge in patent misuse of Industrial Dispute Act. Their immediate response when faced by conciliation forum is that they do not recognise the trade unions,” said Bolashetty.
He opined it was unparliamentary behaviour. “Employers must not shy away from making their point. They should use the democratic forums to put forth their thoughts,” he added.
He lamented that the implementation and communication of labour measures in the state was very poor.
“Out of the 200 labour laws, only 36 have been implemented in the state so far,” he said.
