MADIKERI: The Forest Department is all set to trap a tiger which killed nearly 18 domestic animals in Kothoor village in south Kodagu, within four days.Chief Conservator of Forests and field director of Project Tiger B J Hosamath is monitoring the  three cages kept in Kothoor, in private residences, to trap the tiger. Assembly  Speaker and MLA from Virajpet K G Bopaiah visited the spots and initiated steps to disburse  compensation to those who lost their animals. A total of Rs 2.49 lakh has been given to the people  as compensation. The compensation, which used to be Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 for loss of cow and bullock,  respectively, has been hiked to Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000; Rs 9,000 is the compensation for loss of a calf.Assistant Conservator of Forests Belliappa told Express: “We are ready with two teams under the supervision of seniors (to trap the tiger). But since Wednesday afternoon, the tiger was not seen. We are cautious on noting the movements of the tiger and keeping villagers informed accordingly.”Bopaiah added that he will inform the state government to take immediate steps to disburse the compensation.Residents say that the tiger uses a forest near the village temple as its hideout and comes out only at night. Meanwhile, DCF Vijayaranjan Singh said that around 50 officials of the Hunsur forest range accompanied with a veterinary doctor are on the lookout for the tiger with guns loaded with tranquillisers to shoot the tiger at sight.
