Former vice-president of Louis Berger Satyakam Mohanty arrested in bribery scam
Louis Berger has been charged with bribing Indian officials with several crores of rupees to win two major water developmental projects in Goa and Guwahati.

Panaji: Former vice-president of US firm Louis Berger Satyakam Mohanty has been arrested in the Goa bribery scam.

Mohanty who was questioned by Goa Crime Branch on Sunday was placed under arrest on Monday, said Superintendent of Police (CB) Kartik Kashyap.

This is the second arrest in the case wherein officials of the US company confessed in a court in that country that they had paid bribes to an Indian minister to win consultancy contract for water augmentation and sewerage pipeline project under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Goa in 2010 (when Congress was in power).

Goa Crime Branch had earlier named two former ministers from Congress in their report submitted to the Chief Minister of the state.

According to sources, former chief minister of Goa Digambar Kamat allegedly took bribes on two occasions between 2010 and 2011. Louis Berger officials personally handed over more than Rs 1 crore to the former chief minister.

Former PWD minister Churchill Alemao also took around Rs 70 lakh, the sources said.
