KOCHI: The CBI on Monday filed a chargesheet in the sensational custody murder of Sampath, the prime accused in the murder of Sheela of Puthoor. The chargesheet, filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, names four police officers as accused. DySP C K Ramachandran Nair, sub inspectors T U Unnikrishnan and Ramesh and civil police officer Shyama Prasad are the policemen accused in the case.Vinu Ittoop, a friend of Ramachandran Nair is the fifth accused. All the policemen, except Ramachandran Nair, are charged with murder.It is stated in the chargesheet that Sampath was subjected to inhuman torture. Later, DySP Ramachandran Nair asked the policemen to bring Sampath to Sheela’s house.It was found that Sampath was dead while proceeding to Sheela’s house, the chargesheet said. The CBI team arrested the police personnel on March 23, 2011. Of these, CK Ramachandran Nair was granted bail by the Kerala High Court.The government had granted permission to the investigating agency to launch prosecution proceedings against the accused police officers. Although the Ernakulam CJM court had issued arrest warrants against DIG Vijay Sakare (Former SP of Palakkad) and ADGP Mohammed Yasin, the CBI returned the warrants.Sheela, 47, wife of CVM Group partner P Jayakrishnan, was killed in broad daylight at her house in Puthur,on March 23, 2010. Sampath 26, Karipalli House, Karingirapully, was named the first accused, Kanakaraj and Manikandan of Coimbatore the second and third accused respectively.Sampath died in police custody on March 29, 2010, allegedly following the third-degree torture during interrogation at Irrigation Department Guest House, Muvattupuzha.
