The Cholamandal Artists' Village at Injambakkam is holding a group exhibition, which features the works of 14 artists. The exhibition is a travel show titled, Metal & Canvas, which has already been screened in Delhi and Mumbai. It began in November. Srinivasan R, a metal sculptor whose works are on display in the exhibition, says, “My current show is based on royal faces, which are mostly made of bronze. There are quite a few complicated procedures involved in bronze-sculpture making. I have used 'lost wax casting' method. As I have been practising for 25 years now, I can easily complete models in a matter of 24 hours.”'Lost wax casting' is a process by which a metal sculpture is cast from an artist's sculpture. Depending on the carver’s skills, intricate works can be achieved by this method, says Srinivasan. Moreover, it is one of the ancient procedures of sculpture-making, he adds. Talking to City Express about the response to the show, Srinivasan says, “All my shows, be it group or solo, have done really well.”Raghu Neware, a painter who hails from Nagpur, says, “It feels great to be a part of this group show. This is the third city we are visiting as a group. Everyone has enjoyed it and appreciated our work.” Talking about his works in the show, another artist Rajasekaran KA says, “ I have tried to explore and discover the infinity of a given space through my work. The vastness and endlessness of the universe (or like I said, a certain space) is unimaginable, and it is up to us to find the unknown. The quest to find the unknown can be challenging, but it is fun too. My paintings are mostly oil-on-canvas or acrylic-on-canvas.
