HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) babus are all set to get Samsung Galaxy Tabs ostensibly to keep tabs on everything from unauthorised constructions to engineering works and get real-time info and images.The GHMC intends to purchase 50 tablets for 18 Circle Deputy Municipal Commissioners (16 GB), one Chief City Planner (32 GB), one Engineerin- Chief, nine Additional Commissioners and five Zonal Commissioners (64).Special Commissioner and Commissioner will also be provided with tablets with maximum storage capacity. Speaking to City Express, GHMC officials said the corporation had invited Request for Proposal (RFP) last month and two private agencies have responded to the RFP.The selection of the agency would be finalised after the arrival of GHMC Special Commissioner Navin Mittal who is not in town. Each Tablet costs between Rs 30,000 and Rs 35,000, the officials said. Data relating to town planning like building plans, health and sanitation, engineering works and others will be fed into the tablets supplied to the officers.According to the officials, when a senior officer of the rank of commissioner, zonal commissioner or additional commissioner (planning) makes a surprise visit to any of the GHMC offices or a particular locality, they can access information immediately on the tablet as it is easy to carry and use. The tablets, they pointed out, can be used to keep track of activities as they unfold.
