Mumbai: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is disappointed to be dropped from the One-Day team but believes selectors are moving in the right direction by bringing on younger players with an eye on the next World Cup.
Ganguly, one of three Indians to score over 10,000 runs in One-Day cricket, was dropped for the ongoing triangular series in Australia despite displaying consistency at Test level.
"I had a great year last year and my One-Day record is probably the next best after Sachin (Tendulkar)," the 35-year-old Bengal cricketer was quoted as saying by local media on Tuesday.
"It is disappointing but then I have accepted it (being dropped)."
Ganguly was left out as selectors opted for youth in a revamp policy following the team's first-round exit at the One-Day World Cup and a surprise victory by a young squad captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Twenty20 version last year.
Another former captain, Rahul Dravid, was the first to feel the heat of the shake-up last year as selectors pitched for youth in preparation for the 2011 World Cup in the subcontinent.
"I must say that the 2011 World Cup is still a long way away. But I have a lot of faith in (chief selector) Dilip Vengsarkar, somebody whom I respect quite a lot and I am sure good things will happen under him," he said.
