KOCHI: To see how easily fake certificates are available, City Express approached an agent functioning in the Palarivattom region. I approached them saying I needed a passport for a job in Singapore. I added I had no SSLC certificate as I couldn’t clear the examination. The agent without any hesitation said, “That’s not a problem at all. Just pay an additional Rs 3000 and the certificate will be at your door step in three weeks time.” I asked him if I would land in any trouble with the authentication officer, and the agent answered, “Everything will be safe, we will provide the original mark-sheet and serial number. Besides we have several close allies in the passport office and the authentication centre, who will ensure everything goes smoothly.”When I tried to know more about their operations, he cut me short. “You don’t have to bother about it. We have people to make the certificates. Many have approached us and no one has been caught till now. You just have to pay Rs 3000. If you want a degree certificate, it will cost Rs 5000 and we can also provide you a PhD certificate for Rs 8000. The duplicates won’t be detected. All you need to do is pay the money and give us a copy of your Voter ID or driving licence.” he said.
