Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi on Friday honoured Priya Semwal who was recently commissioned into the Indian Army as a junior officer after she lost her husband in a counter-insurgency operation two years ago.
Speaking at a function held in her honour at Raj Bhawan, the Governor showered praise on Lt Priya Semwal for displaying courage and will power in the face of adverse conditions after the martyrdom of her husband. Describing her as a brave woman who chose to join the Army despite losing her husband, a jawan, in a counter-insurgency operation, he said she has become a source of inspiration for women of this country.
Noting that from almost every home in Uttarakhand's countryside, at least one member is in the defence forces, the Governor said the hill state was as much a land of the brave (Virbhumi) as that of the Gods (Devbhoomi). He said warriors from Uttarakhand have always displayed rare valour in protecting the country.
