THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor R S Gavai who is also the Chancellor of universities in Kerala, on Thursday reinstated Registrar P P Mohammed who was dismissed from service by the previous LDF Government for obvious political reasons.Mohammed was dismissed by the Left dominated Calicut University Syndicate in 2009 August on charges of maladministration and irregularities. However, he was given full pension benefits.Though Mohammed had approached the Chancellor earlier, he was asked to file the petition following proper norms. Later, he approached the High Court. Following the directive of the High Court, he resubmitted the petition to the Governor, who in turn appointed an appellate committee for looking into the issue. The decision to reinstate Mohammed was taken on the basis of the recommendation of this committee. The Syndicate had charged Mohammed with failure to implement various decisions of the Syndicate as well as failure to correct irregularities found in recent appointments of teaching faculties.Another charge was that he had shot off a complaint to the Chancellor bypassing the proper channels and that he had used execrable language against the then ViceChancellor Anwar Jahan Zuberi and some Syndicate members. The Syndicate also charged Mohammed with belittling the Governor by mentioning in an affidavit, the Registrar filed before the High Court, that the Chancellor was ignorant of certain rules.
