Mumbai: Filmmaker Ravi Chopra has said his upcoming film Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai is an adaptation of Hollywood movie My Cousin Vinny and not a remake.
"I chose it (My Cousin Vinny) because it the finest comedy I have seen in recent times and I bought the rights," Chopra said.
The movie is complete and being readied for a November release.
Chopra said he decided to make a comedy because he wanted a change from the recent social dramas he had helmed like Baghban and Babul.
Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai stars Govinda, Tabu and Lara Dutta in the lead roles. Chopra said Govinda was best suited for the role of a lawyer who has never entered the court room. Govinda's character in the movie takes six years to get a law degree and suddenly he is entrusted with a murder case.
Chopra said he will start his next film, Pocket Maar, with Amitabh Bachchan in October. The film is a family drama which will depict that crime, no matter how big or small, is a sin.
"Bachchan plays part of the family that is affected by the Pocket Maar. The rest of the cast is being finalised," he said.
He also said that B R Films has ventured into production on a big scale after several years with a slew of films in pre-production and production stages.
"Rahul Dholakia (of Parzania fame) and debutant Sanjeevan are directing films for B R Films. Both films are slated to go on floors in January-February 2009," he said.
"Dholakia's film is tentatively titled Dosti while Sanjeevan's movie, based on human trafficking, is called Betiyan. In the past, directors like Basu Chaterjee have made films for our banner," he added.
