CHENNAI: The government has preferred an appeal challenging an order dated January 23 of a single judge setting aside a GO disbanding over 11,600 posts of Makkal Nala Paniyalargar.Originally, while allowing two writ petitions from the MNPs Associations, Justice K Suguna had directed the government to reinstate the MNPs and to extend the monetary benefits to them. The Secretary and Commissioner of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department filed the appeals seeking to quash the order. They contended the judge had failed to take into consideration the non-compliance of various sections of the Societies Registration Act by the associations. The writ petitioner associations did not exist in the eye of law, as they had not complied with statutory provisions. From 1997-2001 and 2001-2006 there were no MNPs and the works were looked after by the existing staff, the appeal said. The posts were purely temporary. Persons who had been appointed without following the norms as back-door entries did not have any right to cling on to the post as permanent employees.
