HC reserves order on Vikas Yadav's bail
The Delhi High Court has reserved its decision on the bail plea of Vikas Yadav till December 18.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday took up the bail plea of Vikas Yadav, the prime accused in the Nitish Katara murder case, but reserved a decision till December 18, pending a reply on the issue from the Uttar Pradesh Government.

The court of Justice A K Sikri issued a notice to the UP government on the issue and asked it to file its reply by December 18.

Moving the petition in the court, Vikas Yadav's counsel submitted that the court had earlier directed him to move for bail when the deposition of his sister Bharti, a key witness in the case, was over. Vikas Yadav is the son of former UP MP D P Yadav.

Vikas Yadav approached the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, after the Supreme Court on December 1 refused to hear his bail plea, saying that he should go to the High Court. In his bail plea, Vikas submitted that he should be granted bail on the ground that Bharti had already completed her testimony in the trial court last week.

"During her deposition, she had given a clean chit to me. I have no role behind the murder," Vikas claimed in the bail application.

He also said in the application that he should be granted bail as Vishal, a co-accused in the case, has already been released on bail by the high court. Vikas has been in judicial custody for more than four years now.

In February 2002, Vikas and his cousin Vishal allegedly killed Nitish Katara after a common friend's marriage party in Ghaziabad as they were against his intimacy with their sister Bharti.
