Headley testimony will have no impact on Ishrat Jahan encounter case: Government sources
Government sources said that it is hearsay evidence and not acceptable in a criminal case.

New Delhi: Hours after Pakistan American terrorist David Coleman Headley revealed in a Mumbai court that Ishrat Jahan was a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, government sources said that it would have no impact on the alleged fake encounter case.

According to government sources, Headley told the court that he heard from Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi that Ishrat was a terrorist, adding that it is hearsay evidence and not acceptable in a criminal case.

Ishrat Jahan's lawyer Vrinda Grover had earlier said that Headley's version was not evidence in accordance with Indian law, as he was given a "multiple choice question" by a "Padma Shree" lawyer.

She said that Ishrat Jahan was murdered in cold blood, even as she narrated the sequence of questions and answers between public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and Headley.

According to the lawyer, Headley's statement could not be taken on record as he didn't name Ishrat Jahan himself, but after multiple choice options given to him.

Ishrat's sister Musarrat Jahan also dismissed the revelation made by Headley that her sister was LeT terrorist.

"My sister was innocent," said Musarrat while speaking to CNN-IBN.

She reiterated that Ishrat Jahan's death was part of a large conspiracy with big names involved in the alleged fake encounter.

Asserting that investigations had proved the encounter fake, Musarrat said that "a terrorist" cannot be trusted.
