Bengaluru: The mid-November wedding of Karnataka mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy's daughter has set tongues wagging in Bengaluru, with the invitation card going viral on social media.

The invitation card comes in a box, with a small screen that pops up with a personalised, customised video-song that the entire Reddy family is seen singing and acting to. The video features Reddy in traditional gear with a heavy gold chain around his neck, while his wife Lakshmi Aruna, also decked up in silks and gold, start off the video with a rendition of ‘athithi devo bhava’.

Sources in his office told CNN-News18 that the lavish wedding is scheduled for November 16, at the Bengaluru Palace, while a reception will also be held on the previous evening at the same place. Though his hometown is Bellary in north Karnataka, Reddy, who is on bail since January 2015, has been prohibited from going to Bellary or Ananthpur (where his mining company Obalapuram Mining Company operated from) as a bail condition.

However, there has been a relaxation in bail conditions to allow him to go to Bellary between November 1 and November 21 — to invite friends and family and later for post-wedding rituals like satyanarayana puja.

Over 10,000 people are expected to attend the wedding of his daughter Brahmani with businessman Rajeev Reddy, who also makes a brief appearance in the wedding video-invite.

While speculation is rife about Bollywood stars also being enlisted to entertain guests with an elaborate dance performance at the wedding, official sources did not confirm this.

Reddy shot to fame for allegedly controlling all mining activities — a large chunk of it illegal — in Bellary and Ananthpur between 2008 and 2011 when the BJP ruled over Karnataka. An MLC and minister for tourism at the time, Janardhan Reddy was arrested in 2011 after the Karnatkaa Lokayukta submitted its final report on illegal mining in the state. BS Yeddyurappa, who was chief minister at the time, and currently state BJP president, was also forced to step down from office after the report indicted him.

The Reddy family has always been known to live it up, with reports of seizure of huge quantities of gold as well as private helicopters during the CBI investigation.

Reddy, got bail in January 2015 after over two years in jail as an undertrial in the 3,000-crore scam that rocked the state and its politics. Separately, he has also been under investigation for allegedly trying to bribe a judge in Telangana to get bail in some of his earlier cases.
