MADURAI: The police have registered a case against a headmaster of a government school in Pothumbu village, 10 km away from the city, for sexually abusing girl students there.Things came out in the open when a Class X student refused to go to school. Though she refused to divulge the reason, another student of Class VII told her parents that the two were sexually abused by headmaster Arockiasamy. She alleged that he used to hold their palms on the pretext of predicting their future and then touch them with the wrong intention.They alleged that Arockiasamy had also asked them to arrange books in the school and had videographed their movements. He did the same while the girls practised yoga at school.This was brought to the notice of other parents and an emergency meeting was convened with the involvement of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and its secretary, S K Ponnuthai.On Wednesday, members of the AIDWA interacted with the students and the teachers in the school. While the teachers tried to wriggle out of the situation saying no complaint were received of such sexual abuse against the headmaster. When questioned in person, many of the students complained of sexual abuse by Arockiasamy.Following this, parents and AIDWA members resorted to a road blockade in protest on the Alanganallur main road in Sikkander Chavadi on Wednesday. They dispersed after being assured of action by Revenue Divisional Officer, R Durairajan, and Madurai North Tahsildar, Arjunan.The protestors also lodged a police complaint against Arockiasamy. A case was registered against the headmaster and two teachers, Shanmugam and Ameli, under sections 354 and 506 (I) of the Indian Penal Code and section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act at the Koodal Pudur police station.
