Argentine Mariano Alperin-Bruvera will now take overall charge of Honda's aero department at the Brackley-based squad.

London: Honda have promoted Argentine Mariano Alperin-Bruvera to chief aerodynamicist of their Formula One team.

The team said in a statement that Alperin-Bruvera would lead a 'significantly expanded' team of aerodynamicists, designers and technicians at the team's Brackley factory.

The 40-year-old Argentinean has been a senior aerodynamicist at the team since its inception as BAR in 1998, having previously worked for AGS France, Lamborghini and Fondmetal.

He will now take overall charge of Honda's aero department as the Brackley-based squad prepares for the final commissioning of its new full-scale wind tunnel.

"Mariano Alperin-Bruvera has been part of this team since the beginning and a key player in its progress to date," technical director Geoff Willis said.

"His new role will see him step up from head of one of our two aero development groups to a position of overall aerodynamic leadership. I have every confidence that in the position of chief aerodynamicist, Mariano will continue to play a pivotal role in our team's pursuit of its championship ambitions," Willis said.

Alperin-Bruvera added: "I'm very proud to be given this opportunity to lead what I believe to be one of the strongest and most talented aerodynamics teams in Formula 1. Our new wind tunnel represents a new technological step in aerodynamic research and I'm confident that there are some very exciting times ahead of us."

Honda, who bought the BAR team and changed its name this season, have a new full-scale wind tunnel nearing completion at the facility in central England as they target a first race win in Formula One.
