HYDERABAD: The TDP, BJP and CPI MLAs from the Telangana region stalled the proceedings of the Assembly forcing its adjournment for the day without transacting any business on Monday. The opposition parties demanded that the government honour its agreement with the Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee (TEJAC) and pay salaries for the 42-day Sakala Janula Samme and previous agitations in support of the demand for a separate state. The government, however, pleaded helplessness, saying the matter was before the High Court. Two adjournment motions failed to restore order in the House as the opposition members stormed the speaker’s podium demanding a discussion on the issue. The BJP gave a notice for an adjournment motion in the morning but Speaker N Manohar disallowed it and asked it to bring it in another form. When BJP members G Kishan Reddy and E Lakshminarayana insisted on a discussion on the issue, roads and buildings minister Dharmana Prasada Rao intervened to say that the government was committed to honouring the agreement but legal hurdles were coming in the way.
