Chandigarh: Saying he was a human bomb with explosives strapped to his body, a youth in his mid-20s walked away with Rs 27,000 from a State Bank of India branch at Pinjore, 20 km from Chandigarh.
The youth walked up to the bank in-charge Subhash Jindal on Monday afternoon and said he was a human bomb. He demanded all the cash be handed over to him failing which his accomplice would blow him up.
Jindal told the police that the bearded youth even lifted his T-shirt to show he had explosives strapped to his body.
He said the youth had "several batteries and other things" that looked like a bomb strapped to his vest.
The youth, after looting Rs 27,000, escaped from the bank in an old scooter parked outside.
Bank staff informed the police that the youth fled towards Kalka, adjoining Haryana's border with Himachal Pradesh.
The bank branch is located at the famous picnic spot of Yadvindra Gardens, built during the time of Mughal emperor Jehangir.
Tourists usually flock this area but a robbery in broad daylight has put a question mark on the security standards of the place.
