Husband in police custody

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mohandas, 53, the suspect in the case of murder of his wife Nirmala here on Sunday, was arrested by the police on Tuesday. Mohandas, who was absconding after the incident, was arrested at around 6.30 a.m. from near Vattiyoorkavu. Nirmala, 56, of Darsan Nagar at Kudappanakkunnu here, was clubbed to death  suspectedly by Mohandas. The incident occurred on Sunday night and Mohandas has been absconding since then.  Police said that Mohandas, an alcohol addict, used to quarrel with Nirmala as she rejected his demand for money. On Sunday also a quarrel took place between them which resulted in her being killed. After confirming her death, Mohandas informed his sons, Krishnadas and Vishnudas, both engineering students in Kochi, about the death of their mother.  ‘’Mohandas, who is three years younger to Nirmala, is her cousin and theirs was a love marriage,’’ Peroorkada CI Jayachandran, who is the investigating officer in the case, said.  Nirmala was a retired government employee and Mohandas, a Gulf returnee, is an electrician. It was only a few months back that Nirmala purchased a home at Kudappanakkunnu. Nirmala’s body was taken to her native place Pandalam. Mohandas was remanded in police custody.
