HYDERABAD: It was an inner peace of an altogether different kind. The Global Peace Foundation Auditorium here, venue for seminars on spirituality, wellness and motivation, vibrated with the innocence of hundreds of children right from tiny tots to the more chic teen crowd. What united them on a cool Monday evening was a common passion for cinema - children's movies at that. And the 17th International Children's Film Festival seemed the perfect venue for just that.
Speaking to the crowd comprising children, cinema aficionados, politicos and budding cinema youth, Nandita Das, chairperson of the Children's Film Society of India said, "This is the ninth time that Hyderabad is hosting the children's film festival. This year's event will see over 150 movies being screened, with movies from even South America and Africa showcased." And with a special section on short films, as well as an in focus section wherein Chinese films will be provided a special platform to showcase their culture to the Indian audience, this year's event promises to take the festival to truly international standards.
And children at the venue could be seen bubbling with excitement, as Nandita Das further announced a new segment which would showcase only movies directed by children. Lauren, a 12-year kid at the festival could be seen running around to catch a closer glimpse of his favourite star Nagarjuna who had also graced the occasion. "Movies are a passion for me. One day, I hope to direct my own movie with big stars in them," he said with a wide smile. Lauren and his friend have taken a fiveday leave from school just for the event, and the group made their intentions clear when they shouted in unison, "School takes a backseat for this week."
