Hyderabad: In view of the rampant transfer of student bus passes found during a special drive launched by APSRTC, the director of the vigilance and security wing of the corporation, VV Srinivas on Friday issued a warning to students not to resort to such practices. “The students will face severe punishment if they give their free or concession bus passes to their relatives or friends,” he said.
Addressing a press conference, he said that people have been found to have used illegal means to procure bus passes, including production of fake college identity cards. “Some fixed their photos on colour photocopied bus passes. Some able-bodied men got passes meant for the disabled by producing fake certificates,” he said.
The APSRTC has issued over 10 lakh free and concessional bus passes for students across the state, half of them in Hyderabad alone. In a special drive against fake bus passes, launched two weeks ago, the APSRTC’s vigilance wing arrested 38 persons and registered criminal cases against them for travelling in RTC buses with fake bus passes.
