After commercially successful 'FALTU', Jackky is again ready to impress the audience with 'Ajab Gazabb Love'.

New Delhi: Jackky Bhagnani’s entry into Bollywood didn’t become memorable as the actor’s first film ‘Kal Kissne Dekha’ bombed at the ticket window, but Jackky came into limelight with the success of ‘FALTU’. Now, the actor is gearing up for his next release ‘Ajab Gazabb Love’. The song ‘Boom boom’ of the film is already a chartbuster and the film is set to face the stiff competition with ‘Chakravyuh’ and ‘Rush’ which are releasing alongside it. Jackky talks about ‘AGL’ and what it means to be a producer’s son in Bollywood.

Q: Why the film is called ‘Ajab Gazabb Love’?

A: The film’s name is ‘Ajab Gazabb Love’ and there is everything ‘ajab’ about it. Normally we say, I have this, I have that to impress girls or boys but here the case is different. The boy says that I don’t have anything while in reality he has everything.

This film is a combination of a South Indian superstar, a ‘Dhoom’ director, ‘No 1’ producer, ‘Dabangg’ music directors and a ‘FALTU’ actor. My father used to make films like this in early 90s, ‘Biwi No 1’, ‘Hero No 1’ etc, where there used to be amazingly sweet premise, a lot of comedy and a feel good story.

Q: There are people who perceive you as a competition to established actors of your age group.

A: It may seem like that I come from a comfortable background but I have struggled a lot, not only in films but in real life also. I was a fat boy in school, plus I had asthma, so I couldn’t take part in sports or any other curriculum. I used to slack behind in studies also because I was very shy and that continued in college also. I never got to do all that, and then my first film didn’t work, so when somebody says that I am a competition to others, it makes me happy.

Q: The basic storyline seems very close to you real life.

A: Very close, plus I am a family person. My reputation is not of someone who comes out quite often. I don’t like to speak about my personal life, my affairs because I think I am an actor and I am answerable to people.

Q: How necessary was the 6 pack abs?

A: Tell me how many people are known for their bodies. So, getting into that category is a good achievement I guess.

Q: Is it about being saleable?

A: Rank 1 is acting, you can make a good body but you also need to act well. Today a ‘Barfi’ does well, a ‘Kahaani’ does well, and a ‘Bol Bachchan’ does well, all three acting are different but all three are acting. Gone are the days when there were art and commercial cinema. Now, the film needs to do good business. So, this is very clear to me, my acting should be appreciated but the film should also make money. At the end of the day it’s a gamble for the producer. Actors, technicians, critics all get their money before the release of the film but producer gets it after the release. So, do stuff that people want to see. If the content is not so saleable then there is a certain budget to do it. As a very senior person told me, ‘Films don’t fail, budgets fail.’

Q: Do you think ‘Ajab Gazabb Love’ has developed you as an actor?

A: This film has developed me as an actor. Sanjay Gadhvi has worked with experienced people in the past and he knows how to extract performances out of the actors. So, I should be happy.

Q: What are the projects in pipeline?

A: My next film is ‘Rangrez’ with Priyadarshan and Santosh Sivan as DOP. Hopefully, I am going to shock people with my appearance and acting in that film.
