HYDERABAD: Senior IAS officer M G V K Bhanu was on Sunday questioned for the second time by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation (OMC) illegal mining case. Though CBI officials did not confirm it, Bhanu claimed he was summoned by the investigating agency only as a witness.
Sources said Bhanu was questioned for nearly six hours, reportedly in the presence of former vicechairman and managing director of the AP Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) V D Rajagopal and a bidder for the Obulapuram mining lease, Shashi Kumar.Assam cadre officer Bhanu served in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) during the tenure of the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy (20042009) and reportedly dealt with several important infrastructure projects. He was called in for a second round of questioning on Sunday after the CBI had grilled another IAS officer, Y Srilakshmi, who was the secretary in the mining department during that time. The interrogators reportedly tried to crosscheck the versions rendered by Srilakshmi by asking Bhanu questions relating to the same aspects of the case. The investigators are said to be of the view that the file pertaining to the granting of lease of iron ore mining to OMC was given a push by Bhanu.
