In Bengal's Kolaghat, AI Transplant Workshop Provides Free Prosthetic Limbs To 200 People
The Sanket Durga Puja Committee of Kolaghat, in collaboration with Kolkata's Sati Charitable Trust, has launched the Prosthetic Organ Transplantation Programme.

An artificial organ transplant workshop has started at Kolaghat New Market, within the Radha Madhav temple premises in the East Midnapore district, West Bengal. Approximately 200 individuals from sixteen districts across the state benefited from this completely free service, provided they have made prior arrangements.

This initiative primarily aims to assist those who have permanently lost their limbs due to various circumstances, such as road accidents. A temporary facility has been set up at the workshop, equipped with the necessary materials and equipment. Expert doctors and skilled technicians from different states are working tirelessly to create custom-made artificial limbs for the participants.

The Sanket Durga Puja Committee of Kolaghat, in collaboration with Kolkata’s Sati Charitable Trust, has launched the Prosthetic Organ Transplantation Programme at the Radha Madhav temple premises.

This workshop will run for about a week. Many individuals have lost limbs due to birth defects or accidents and are often unable to afford prosthetics. To support these individuals, the artificial organ transplant workshop was established in Kolaghat.

With Durga Puja approaching, these prosthetic limbs will help recipients fully enjoy the festival. A total of 200 physically challenged people will receive free prosthetic limbs during the week-long event.

Not only residents of East Midnapore but also those from neighbouring districts, such as Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata, Burdwan, West Midnapore, South Twenty-four Parganas, and Bankura, will benefit. There are about 200 disabled individuals from these eleven districts who require one or more limbs.

At the camp, participants receive artificial legs or arms, which are fitted onto their bodies immediately and free of charge. The program started on Monday, September 2. On the first day, 20 disabled individuals received their prosthetic limbs.

Due to various accidents and birth defects, some participants have lost one or both legs or parts of their arms, permanently disrupting their normal lives. Kolaghat Sanket organised this workshop with them in mind. The artificial limbs, crafted by doctors and skilled artisans at the camp, are being provided free of charge from September 2 onwards.

The recipients of this initiative have expressed their happiness and gratitude for the club’s efforts.
