In I-Day Speech, PM Modi Calls for End to Dynastic Politics With Plan for New Blood
The prime minister said his government would bring in one lakh youth into the political system, specifically those who have no history of politics in their families

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion on the 78th Independence Day on Thursday, called for an overhaul of the political system in India as he once again called out the menace of dynasty politics.

“We will bring one lakh youth into the political system, specifically those with no history of politics in their families,” the prime minister said, adding that this would be able to counter the challenges faced by generations due to unavailability of opportunities.

PM Modi has raised the issue of dynastic politics earlier too, much to the chagrin of the Opposition. During the election campaign of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, he had called out political families for having looted the country for decades together. He had also said that dynasty and corruption were the common glue because of which various opposition parties were coming together.

Speaking during the budget session, PM Modi had countered the attacks of the Opposition which called out the duplicity of the BJP with regards to dynastic parties.

Many parties have questioned the BJP’s doublespeak on the issue when children of several senior party leaders have also entered the political fray; case in point being Defence Minister Rajnath Singh whose son is an MLA in Uttar Pradesh.

Responding to the allegations, the prime minister said that it was different for people to have political aspirations than being in command of the party just by virtue of being in the family. He, in fact, went on to say that Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh are not the proprietors of the BJP, unlike some dynastic parties like the Congress and DMK whose succession plan always revolves around family members.

In his 11th speech from the Red Fort, PM Modi not only spoke about the focus on developed India by 2047, but also highlighted that the government is committed to delivering good governance, working for the most backward in society and empowering women, farmers, and youth.
