A 1,400 kg bell is set to be installed at 1008 Lingam Temple in Ariyanoor which is located 14 km away from Salem. It is manufactured by the company Molding Works. It is owned by Stapathi Rajendran hails from Mullai Nagar in Namakkal City in Tamil Nadu. He, along with his son Kalidas, runs this company. In Molding Works, various forms, temple bells, vessels and temple items are manufactured and supplied.
This marvellous feat came after a huge order which was completed by this company during the construction of the historic Ram Ayodhya Temple last year. They manufactured a total of 48 temple bells of different weights for the Ayodhya Ram Temple.
Recently, Molding Works received an order to manufacture a 1,400 kg temple bell for the 1008 Lingam Temple. According to the owners, the making of the temple bell required the hard work of ten people. It was made in one month. The bell was loaded into a truck by a crane and was sent to Salem on March 26. The value of this bronze bell is said to be around Rs 45 lakh. “Usually, temple bells are gold-plated. But for the first time in Tamil Nadu, the temple bell has been polished with bronze-plated polish which is expected to last for about 5 years,” said Molding Works owners while talking to Local18.
Stapathi Rajendran and his son Kalidas said that they have been engaged in the business of making temple bells in Namakkal for generations. Last year, six bells of 120 kg and 70 kg weight along with a 20 kg weight were sent to Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. They were sent to Ayodhya by truck on December 24, 2023.
1008 Lingam is one of the most famous temples in the Salem city of Tamil Nadu. Devoted to Lord Shiva, the temple has 1008 Lingams placed in a way which 1007 Lingams surround the main one. The 1008th Lingam is placed in the front with the statue of Nandi.
