The Srisailam Dam in the state of Telangana is a sight to see, as it has been flooded with water due to the heavy rains in the past few days. As per the reports of Local18, the area is being thronged by tourists visiting the place to take a glimpse of the majestic view.
More reports state that the Srisailam Dam is also receiving flood water from the Jurala project in the Mahabubnagar district. Furthermore, since Karnataka is also experiencing high rains, the Tungabhadra Dam of the state was reported to have flooded as well. So, due to overflooding, reportedly 25 gates were opened in the dam. 1,20,000 cusecs of water was released downstream from it. The water was made to flow to the Sunkesula Barrage, situated in the Kurnool district, Karnataka.
Local18 reports that the overflooding and the water release resulted in 4,60,000 cusecs of it to flow to the Srisailam Dam, through the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers. The rivers were reported to have high water levels due to the flooding. The Srisailam Dam’s capacity is at 885 feet, while the water has reached up to the level of 870.90 feet, according to the reports.
Due to such high levels, the gates of the dam were initially lifted by 10 feet and the water was released from the Nagarjuna Sagar. To witness the incredible water flow, several tourists started to visit the Srisailam Dam, Local18 reports.
The dam’s waterfall, popularly known as the Krishnamma Falls, was naturally the centre of attraction for the tourists, who wasted no time in capturing it on their phones. According to more information, the waterfall is located close to the hills of the Nallamalla forest. It has increased the vehicular traffic around the areas of the Srisailam Dam.
