New Delhi: India will release 30 fishermen and 5 civilian Pakistani prisoners on Thursday. The move by India comes after bilateral talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
Earlier, 150 prisoners who were released by Pakistan reached Vadodara in Gujarat late on Wednesday night. Pakistan had freed 150 prisoners as a goodwill gesture a day ahead of Nawaz Sharif's visit to New Delhi.
59 fishermen were released from the Malir jail in Karachi and another 92 from the Nara jail in Hyderabad in Sindh province. They had been arrested for fishing in Pakistan's territorial waters.
"I was in Karachi jail for 10 months and in Hyderabad jail for four and a half months. Now I am going home finally, thanks to Narendra Modi," said a fisherman. "Because of Narendra Modi we are able to finally go home after such a long wait," another fisherman added.
